Nube 8175/S Pendant

Nube 8175/S is a pendant of two rounded glass forms stacked one above the other, with a column of light running through their centre. Italamp makes the outer glass in Murano glass and the inner column in hand-carved crystal, and the company describes the pairing as two techniques in dialogue.

The carved crystal is the part to look at closely. It runs vertically through both glass volumes, and its cut surface breaks the LED into fine lines that show through the tinted glass. The outer glass comes in smoked grey or salmon pink on an iron grey structure. The idea, in Italamp's words, is the shifting balance of clouds as they swirl through the air.

Nube is designed by Defne Koz and Marco Susani of Koz Susani Design, the Chicago-based studio whose clients, as Italamp lists them, include Alessi, Foscarini and Vitra among many others.

At 40cm across and 44cm tall, Nube suits a bedside, a pair over a dining table for four, or a run of three over an island. The cable adjusts from 35cm to 150cm, so it can hang low beside a bed or high in a stairwell. The integrated 20W module gives 1,330 lumens at a colour rendering above 90: a soft, decorative light that pairs well with downlights where a room needs task light. The table lamp version, Nube 8175/LT, uses the same glass and carved crystal for a sideboard or console.

Made in Italy by Italamp, which has made lighting in Italy since 1975 and is based at Cadoneghe, near Padua.
