Clip 4050/S60 Pendant

Clip is a single sheet of artistic glass held between two slim metal rods, as if clipped in place. The glass keeps an irregular, rounded outline and a textured surface, and the rods run straight past it above and below, so the piece is a contrast of soft and hard: a free form held in a precise frame. Italamp's line for it is 'where matter and light dialogue naturally'. The S60 is the larger pendant, with a panel 60cm wide.

Clip was designed by Pio and Tito Toso, brothers born in Venice who trained in architecture at the IUAV and founded their studio in 1996. They have designed lighting for Venini, Vistosi, Foscarini and Artemide, their work has won Red Dot awards and Compasso d'Oro selections, and MoMA in New York has selected some of their projects.

Hung singly, the S60 suits an entrance hall, a stair landing or a bedside, where the glass can be seen face on. Two or three at staggered heights make a run over a long dining table, which is how Italamp photographs it, and mixing glass colours works as well as matching them. The drop adjusts from 10 to 100cm, so the panel hangs 92 to 182cm below the ceiling: with its lower edge about 75cm above a table, that suits ceilings of roughly 2.4 to 3.3m. A 16W LED source gives 1,200 lumens at a colour rendering over 90, a glow through the glass rather than task light. Dimming is not included; DALI is available on request.

Dark amber on shiny champagne is the warmest; grey on champagne is the quietest; amethyst on shiny bronze is the most decorative.

Made in Italy by Italamp, which has made lighting since 1975 and is based at Cadoneghe, near Padua.
