Caterina 4026/AP2 Wall Light

The Caterina wall light holds two pieces of glass on a brushed brass arm: an opal white cup above and a coloured bell below, olive green or agatha. It lights both ways at once, up through the white and down through the colour, so a single fitting draws a band of light up the wall and a pool down it.

Caterina is by THDP, the architecture and interior design studio founded in 2004 by Nicholas J Hickson and Manuela Mannino, with offices in Italy and London and a portfolio of hotel and residential projects. Italamp describes the collection as made of brushed brass with green and opal glass, intended for hospitality and commercial interiors as well as homes, and the wall light shows that brief clearly: compact, repeatable and easy to place.

In the room, the AP2 is 34cm tall, 14cm wide and projects 19cm from the wall. The double emission makes a run of them read as a rhythm of light along a corridor or a hotel landing, and a pair suits either side of a bed, a mirror or a doorway. Mount it with the glass at about eye level in a corridor, a little lower beside a bed. The integrated 6.4W module gives 740 lumens at a colour rendering over 90. Olive green, on brushed gold, suits dark painted walls and timber panelling, and Italamp photographs it on a marble corridor wall; agatha, a warm amber-brown on brushed light gold, is the softer choice for pale stone and plaster. The 4026/P floor lamp and a table lamp share the same glass.

Made in Italy by Italamp, which has designed and made lighting since 1975 from its base at Cadoneghe, near Padua.
