Aura 2391/90 Pendant

Aura is a single ring of light, 90cm across and only 5cm deep. Its band is set with blocks of krek glass, amber on a satin gold ring or transparent on satin silver, and the LED source behind them catches in the uneven texture of each block, so the ring glows with a broken, glittering edge rather than a flat line of light. Seen from below, the centre is open, and the ceiling shows straight through.

Aura was designed by Italamp Studio, the company's in-house team. It is very light for its size, 5.5kg, which makes it one of the few large pendants that can be hung in groups. Italamp photographs it that way: rings of different diameters at staggered heights, overlapping in plan, so a group reads as a single composition. The family runs from 55cm to 180cm, and Italamp's own projects include a private house in Russia by Chado Architectural Studio lit with Aura.

Hung singly, the 90cm suits a round dining table of about 150 to 180cm or a square living room of 5m or more. Paired with a 55cm or 70cm Aura at a different height, it will hold a long table or a double-height space. A 51W LED module gives 6,100 lumens at a colour rendering over 90. Dimming is not included; TRIAC, DALI and push control are available on request. The drop adjusts from 10 to 100cm, so the ring hangs 15 to 105cm below the ceiling; with its underside about 75cm above a table, that suits ceilings up to about 2.55m. In a taller room, a group at staggered heights is the better answer.

Amber krek on satin gold gives a warm, honeyed light; transparent krek on satin silver is cooler and sharper.
