Nappe Pelle Pendant

Nappe is Marco Zito's reading of the nappine, the tassels that tie back the curtains in the rooms of Venetian palaces. Each piece stacks turned shapes, spheres, domes and drums, above a fringe of fine glass rods that the light runs down. Nappe Pelle wraps one of those drums in a stitched band of brown leather, set against a matt frame in Masiero's concrete grey, which brings the warmth of leather to the tassel. The leather version is made only in the larger Nappe XL and XM sizes.

Masiero showed Nappe Pelle as one of its new collections at Milan Design Week in April 2025, at its Milan showroom in Via Statuto. Masiero has made lighting at Casale sul Sile, near Treviso, since 1981, and makes each piece through the full cycle, from the metalwork up, in its own workshops.

The frame is painted metal, the fringe is rods of Pyrex glass, and the diffusers are Pyrex. In the XL1, XL2, XM1 and XM2 two LEDs work at once: one lights upward into the top of the tassel and one shines down through the fringe, so the piece glows and still puts light on the table below.

In the room

The XL pendants are large, 110 to 135cm tall, and are made to be seen whole: in a stairwell, a double-height hall or a tall sitting room, or as a group of three at different drops over a dining table, as Masiero hung three Nappe XL in its Milan shop window in 2025. The XM pendants, 70 to 88cm, suit a kitchen island, a pair either side of a bed or a reading corner. Mix the six shapes in one group and each keeps its own outline. The brown leather sits most easily with walnut, oak, velvet and warm plaster.
