masiero-na-ar-composition-by-studio-scatter-d
Masiero Na-ar Composition by Studio Scatter D

Na-ar is a family of slim cylinders of fluted brass, Ø3cm, ribbed along their length in vertical lines that recall the Italian fluted pattern called cannetè. Each tube ends in one of three bevelled cuts, and the LED inside throws its light down out of that open end. Hung in groups, the light leaving one tube catches the ribs of its neighbours, so the reflections shift as you walk round it. The name is the Persian word for the colour of fire.

The design is by the duo Studio Scatter D, who started from the striped surface of brass, a finish with industrial roots, and worked it with Masiero's craftsmen. The brass is painted and then brushed by hand for a two-tone effect, in two finishes made only for Na-ar: Mars dust, a warm earth tone, and pale gold. Na-ar was launched at Masiero's Milan showroom in Via Statuto for Milan Design Week in April 2026. Masiero has made lighting at Casale sul Sile, near Treviso, since 1981, and makes each piece through the full cycle, from the metalwork up, in its own workshops.

In the room

The compositions mix three lengths of tube, nominally 45, 65 and 85cm, at different drops. The long cobble canopies follow a dining table: the seven-light C7 CB 120 over a table of 200 to 240cm, the ten-light C10 CB 160 over one of 260cm or more. The round pebble canopies suit a round table, an entrance hall or a stairwell, where the 13-light C13 PB 100 can drop up to 380cm through the void. The clusters are installations: Cluster 39 is a hanging column 175cm tall for a double-height space; Cluster 28 runs 446cm along a reception desk; Cluster 54 spreads over 513 by 303cm in a hotel lobby.

Mars dust gives a darker, earthier reflection and suits stone, timber and plaster; pale gold is lighter and brighter against white walls. Masiero names a dinner with friends and a quiet hour of reading among the moods Na-ar was made for, and the light, coming only from the cut ends, keeps glare off the table.

Made by Masiero in Casale sul Sile, Treviso.

Configurations

C3 PB 30: three 45cm tubes, Ø30cm canopy, drop up to 380cm, 17.4W LED, 1,665 lm

C5 PB 40: two 45, two 65, one 85cm, Ø40cm canopy, drop up to 380cm, 29W, 2,775 lm

C7 PB 60: two 45, two 65, three 85cm, Ø60cm canopy, drop up to 380cm, 40.6W, 3,885 lm

C9 PB 80: three each of 45, 65 and 85cm, Ø80cm canopy, drop up to 380cm, 52.2W, 4,995 lm

C13 PB 100: four 45, four 65, five 85cm, Ø100cm canopy, drop up to 380cm, 75.4W, 7,215 lm

C5 CB 90: two 45, three 65cm, canopy 90 x 30cm, drop up to 380cm, 29W, 2,775 lm

C7 CB 120: two 45, two 65, three 85cm, canopy 120 x 30cm, drop up to 380cm, 40.6W, 3,885 lm

C10 CB 160: four 45, four 65, two 85cm, canopy 160 x 40cm, drop up to 380cm, 58W, 5,500 lm

Cluster 12: twelve 65cm tubes, Ø120 x H65cm, 69.6W, 6,660 lm

Cluster 22: six 45, eight 65, eight 85cm, 303 x 183 x H82cm, 127.6W, 12,210 lm

Cluster 28: eleven 45, eleven 65, six 85cm, 446 x 26 x H85cm, 162.4W, 15,540 lm

Cluster 39: 18 x 45, 15 x 65, six 85cm, Ø120 x H175cm, 226.2W, 21,645 lm

Cluster 54: 18 each of 45, 65 and 85cm, 513 x 303 x H245cm, 313.2W, 29,970 lm

Specification

Designer: Studio Scatter D

Materials: Fluted brass, painted and hand-brushed

Finishes: VT1 Mars dust or VT2 pale gold

Light source: Integrated LED, CRI above 90, 5.8W per tube

Colour temperature: 3000K as standard; 2700K on request

Dimming: TRIAC on the canopy compositions; on request for the clusters

Suspension: Black cables; pebble (round) or cobble (long) ceiling canopies

Certification: CE

Origin: Made in Italy

Every Na-ar composition is made to order by Masiero in Italy.
